About Colleen GerkeColleen has been married to husband John for 36 years. They have 5 children; 3 biological and their goddaughter and her younger brother. Their children range from age 33 to 27. Three are married. They have six grandchildren ages 8 to 10 months. Her bachelor’s is in special education from Mount St. Joseph University. She taught for 12 years in both public and Catholic schools. Her Master’s is in Religious Studies and Lay Pastoral Ministry from the Athenaeum of Ohio. She has 15 years of parish experience as Director of Faith Formation and previously worked in the Archdiocesan Catechetical Office. She recently resigned after 7 years as Director of the Family and Respect Life Office in the Archdiocese of Cincinnati. She is currently a story editor for the I Believe in Love project. The aim of the project is change the view of love and marriage in America through the powerful witness of young adults telling their story. Her husband is an ordained Deacon for the Archdiocese of Cincinnati. She and her husband are secular Franciscans. She has been involved in a variety of parish ministries: RCIA, VBS, liturgical ministries, catechist, parish mission team and more. Colleen and John were foster parents, housed three unwed mothers and three of their children supporting them throughout their pregnancy and the early months of being a mother. They housed an immigrant family of three from Poland. They have supported a family of 7 whose father was deported to Guatemala. She is a Past-President of the National Association of Catholic Family Life Ministers and current chair of the Operations Commission. |
